The Importance of Nurse Practitioner Programs
January 26, 2012 No CommentsGetting an advanced nursing degree does not only entail hard work, it is also expensive. Having this in mind, you must first know all about different programs prior to committing to one. There are various nurse programs that are in the Internet and in schools and they are all different.
A master’s degree in nursing can be taken by those with a bachelor’s degree already and this is a way that they can become nurse practitioners. The program usually takes two years. In this program, you will immediately receive your degree, regardless of whether or not you pass the nurse practitioner licensing test.
Being an entry-level degree for nurse managers and teachers of nursing, the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) will have to be taken by them, while for registered nurses it is regarded as an advanced level graduate degree. If you’re planning to take a doctorate nursing education you must first take an MSN degree. It may concentrate in one or more advanced nursing specialties such as neonatal, geriatrics, acute care, pediatric, OB-GYNE nursing, etc.
A great way to be a nurse practitioner without undergoing a bachelor’s diploma in nursing is that one should go into an RN to MSN program. A person working as an LPN or a CNA who wants to be in the nursing field may be the one to pursue this. With the RN to MSN degree program, you will get a master’s degree program from the same school where you got your undergraduate degree, right after completion.
Try to see it this way, in taking both programs together the university may be able to omit all the overlapping work that nurse would usually encounter when moving from a BSN to MSN program. You will also save a year from the degree duration if you take this program. The RN to MSN nurse practitioner usually last up to 36 months.
Skipping a bachelor’s degree to get an MSN degree is possible if you already posses an associate’s degree or a registered nurse diploma. In completing the program, there are nursing schools that can give successful students a BS and an MSN but some programs would only give an MSN. The best part of this program is that you can earn the degree in just a shorter time period.
If you desire career change, you can take the direct entry MSN program to become a nurse practitioner. Something like this is only applicable for individuals with a bachelor’s degree and not nursing. This can be for students with a liberal arts degree but it would take 24 months for it to be completed.
With the direct entry MSN program, it can last up to four years at maximum. In the degree that you already took up you encountered some electives like math or communications, but in this degree, you won’t have to take this. However, you need to return and take up the nursing fundamentals to qualify for the RN certification.
An Accelerated BSN program is what the arrangement is like. Aside from taking credit for the classes you had, you would also need to take on some serious clinical method and a program of principles. Your classes will be based on your degree.
Take note that in order to group nurse practitioner programs, there are a lot of things to consider. The choice of taking it in an institution or on the Internet is what must be looked into. Check out all the programs available to make sure that the one you get is the right one for you.
